THIS MONTH in Bath

 Issue 151...out now!

Pure gold

A mere week or so after we’d interviewed the talented Amy Williams for this issue’s Bath Lives (page 82), we learned that she’d won the bob skeleton gold award in Vancouver - the first Briton to win an individual Winter Olympics gold in 30 years. Not, of course, that we’re claiming that everyone featured in Bath Life necessarily goes onto fame and fortune, but it has to be more than coincidence – know what we’re saying?
The subject of our cover feature this month is a big favourite of ours – Walcot Street, Bath’s most boho and artistic shopping quarter. Inspired by the excellent work carried out by John Potter on his John’s Bikes website (see page 12), we’ve put together what we hope is the most comprehensive guide to the street ever published. The phrase ‘use it or lose it’ springs to mind; these quirky businesses can only survive if shoppers venture away from the city centre to support them – so keep Walcot firmly on your radar.
You could be forgiven for thinking you were back in the ‘60s this month, when Sir Peter Blake’s art bus rolls into town – we take a look at the latest exhibition from the godfather of Brit art on page 42. Elsewhere, we learn how to source vintage clothing (page 52) look inside a Regency gem (page 78), admire the effect of wisteria against Bath stone (page 68) and come up with some alternatives to the usual flowers ’n  chocs this Mother’s Day (page 50). And if there’s nothing here than inspires you – maybe try a quick wander up Walcot Street…
